Jim Baker is a three-dimensional mixed media devotional artist. The theme of spirituality is present throughout Jim’s artwork, much as is the state of New Mexico, where he resides and where Native American, Catholicism, and Judeo-Christian spirituality abound.
Jim’s work is strongly influenced by his years as a pastor and by his love for the Bible and sacred writings. Jim adapted his Baptist upbringing with New Mexico spirituality and applied it to his art, which includes repurposed Bibles, religious relics, crosses, reliquary altars, clay sculptures, metaphors from Scripture as well as Jesus, Virgin Mary, angels, and saints. Jim’s desire is that his art will inspire devotion and worship of God, provoke spiritual conversations, and help to uncover the often-hidden meaning in Holy Scripture
